Gauhati High Court Itanagar Permanent Bench Bar Association (GHCIPBBA) is an association of dedicated lawyers that serves the legal profession and the public.

It delivers this service by promoting the administration of justice, legal education, professional excellence and respect for the law. (GHCIPBBA)  aims to promote and project the privileges, rights, interests and prestige of the Association and its members and to promote unity and cooperation amongst advocates and other Association of Advocates.

Brief History

Consequent upon the State of Arunachal Pradesh Act, 1986, the Itanagar Bench of the Gauhati High Court was established on 12th August, 2000 as the permanent Bench of the Gauhati High Court (the High Court of Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh). The then Hon’ble Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India, Dr. A.S. Anand was pleased to inaugurate the Itanagar Permanent Bench of the Gauhati High Court at Naharlagun (located in a picturesque location about 13Kms from the Capital town, Itanagar and 12Kms. away from the Banderdewa Check Post between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh) in presence of His Excellency Shri Arvind Dave, Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Shri Mukut Mithi, Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Hon’ble Mr. Justice S.N. Phukan of the Supreme Court of India, who subsequently inaugurated the Itanagar High Court Bar and Shri Tayum Son and Shri R.H Nabam assumed the office of first President and General Secretary of Gauhati High Court Itanagar Permanent Bench Bar Association (GHCIPBBA).

About Arunachal Pradesh

Popularly known as ‘‘Land of the Dawn-lit-Mountains’, Arunachal Pradesh the 24th state of the Indian Union, is India’s remotest state and the first Indian soil to greet the rising sun. Located on the northeastern tip of India with its borders touching China, Bhutan and Burma (Myanmar), this beautiful land is endowed with dazzling array of flora and fauna that is sure to allure any tourist. More than 500 rare species of Orchids are found in the dense jungles of Arunachal Pradesh. The misty hills, sparkling rivers, gurgling waterfalls add charm to the beauty of this incredible land. Arunachal Pradesh finds its mention in the literature of Kalika Purana and the great Hindu Epic Mahabharata. Since Arunachal Pradesh  is a strategic border State, where the East Bengal Regulations is in force, as such, Inner-Line Pass are required for every persons other than some exempted persons for entry into Mizoram.

Old Raj Niwas at D’ Sector, Naharlagun

The Itanagar Bench

The Itanagar permanent Bench was initially located at old Raj Niwas at D’ Sector, Naharlagun a distance of about 12 Kms from Itanagar and 13 kms from Banderdewa bordering, Assam. The High Court Building is under construction at Naharlagun, the permanent site for the High Court.  And presently, it has temporarily been shifted to the existing Court Building and Premises of District and Session Court, Yupia, District –Papum Pare Arunachal Pradesh, which is about a distance of 18.8 Kms from Itanagar, and about 10.9 kms from Naharlagun. Since separation of Judiciary in Arunachal Pradesh in 2011, the High court is doing superintendence over all courts and tribunals within Arunachal Pradesh and also control over district courts and courts subordinated thereto.
